The Federal Emergency Management Agency has extended hotel stays for thousands of Western North Carolina residents displaced by Tropical Storm Helene, the agency announced Jan. 11.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, the agency cited the winter storm that barreled through the WNC Jan. 10, which delivered upwards of 4 inches of snow and sleet to some areas, as the reason behind the reprieve. The 3,500 households that were previously scheduled to check out of hotels Jan. 12, will now have their stays extended until Jan. 14.
This is the second extension FEMA has granted displaced residents utilizing the agency’s Transitional Sheltering Assistance program.
FEMA asks that anyone still needing assistance with housing, to call 800-621-3362.
