A Winter Storm Watch was issued for our entire area Wednesday afternoon and it’s expected to last last through Saturday morning.

Forecast:

  • Last clear and cold day before the winter storm settles in tomorrow.

  • The mountains have some light snow again this morning, with bitter cold temperatures in the single digits and wind chills below zero.

  • Sunshine in the metro, with highs again just in the lower 40s.

  • We remain dry for Friday morning and then snow starts up at least by the early afternoon. That first batch of snow may give us an inch or more in spots before it changes to a wintry mix by the late afternoon and evening.

  • Highest snow totals remain confined to the mountains, with several inches but amounts drop off to just near an inch or less from Charlotte to the south.

  • Sleet and freezing rain will add up through the night into very early Saturday morning. This will continue to make travel hazardous area wide.

  • The sky clears early Saturday and temps will get back above freezing around midday.
