A former Hudson doctor has been found guilty of two sex offense charges, including rape, the Summit County Prosecutor’s Office announced Friday.
Mahmud Kara, 58, went to dinner with the young female victim and two others in April 2023 before returning to his house, according to the press release. After everyone left except for Kara and the victim, he sexually assaulted her. He was found guilty of rape (first-degree felony) and sexual battery (third-degree felony).
His bond was revoked and he is currently being held at the Summit County Jail while he waits to be sentenced Feb. 6, 2025, at 10 a.m. Kara faces a maximum potential prison term of 11 to 16 and a half years and a Tier 3 sexual offender registration, which requires being registered every 90 days for the rest of his life after he leaves prison.
Kara forfeited his medical license in 2018 after pleading guilty to four felony counts of possessing criminal tools for improperly prescribing weight-loss medications.

“Sexual violence has no place in Summit County,” Prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich said in a statement. “I am impressed by the courage of the survivor and grateful for her ability to stand up and tell the truth about Mahmud Kara.”
Kolkovich went on to thank the jurors for their “thoughtful deliberation” as well as the Hudson Police Department and his assistant prosecutors for holding Kara accountable.
