Franklin County placed under Level 1 snow emergency as snow blankets Columbus

Franklin County Sheriff Dallas Baldwin has placed the county under a Level 1 snow emergency in response to steady snowfall that entered the county. .

Under a Level 1 snow emergency, roadways are considered hazardous due to the blowing and drifting snow, and roadways may be icy.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday night that the county is under a level one snow emergency. The sheriff’s office warns that roadways may be hazardous and icy.

Snow began blanketing Columbus around 6 p.m. Friday. The snow emergency comes as Franklin County and most other central Ohio counties are already under a winter weather advisory until 10 a.m. Saturday, including Delaware, Licking, Fairfield and Pickaway counties. Other Ohio counties under the advisory include: Hocking, Pike, Ross, and Scioto counties.

According to the advisory from the National Weather Service in Wilmington, 2 to 4 inches of snow are now expected Friday night into the early hours of Saturday.

Friday: A 40% chance of snow, mainly after 2 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 26. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. Less than half an inch of snow accumulation expected.

Friday night: A 100% chance of snow, mainly before 4 a.m. Low around 22. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Saturday: A 20% chance of snow, mostly between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 28. West wind 7 to 11 mph. A west wind around 5 mph will become calm in the evening, and the low will be around 14.

Sunday: Partly sunny, with a high near 31 and a calm wind becoming south 5 to 8 mph in the morning. Sunday night will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 22.

Monday: Mostly cloudy with a high near 32. Overnight, the low will be about 9.

Tuesday: Partly sunny with a high near 16. Night will bring mostly cloudy skies with a low around 4.

Wednesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 18. Wednesday night will be mostly cloudy with a low around 5.

Thursday: A 30% chance of snow. Partly sunny, with a high near 25.
