Couples looking to tie the knot on Valentine’s Day can do so for free in Ramsey, Washington and other Minnesota county courthouses this year.
Hennepin County District Court took the lead in offering weddings for free beginning in 2013, and last year Ramsey and St. Louis County district courts joined the effort. This year Carlton, Chisago, Cook, Lake, Pine and Washington counties are joining the family.
“Marrying people is one of the highlights of our job,” Chisago County Judge Jesse Seabrooks II said in a Minnesota Judicial Branch announcement. “Participating in these Valentine’s Day weddings allows us not only to bring joy to couples but also to show people the courts are here for them.”
Because each courthouse has a limited number of ceremony times available, appointments are required. Couples don’t need to live in the county where the wedding takes place, but they must have a valid marriage license in that county.
