Dec. 19—FROSTBURG — A busy intersection in Frostburg will see traffic pattern changes by 2027, according to city officials.
An engineering contract with Brudis & Associates for the Gateway Roundabout Project was approved Tuesday by the mayor and City Council.
The new roundabout will be located at the intersection of Bowery Street, Center Street, Park Avenue and Braddock Road near Frostburg State University’s campus.
Tuesday’s action will allow the project to be fully designed and ready for construction in the near future, according to Director of Public Works Hayden Lindsey.
Costs were reduced after several meetings with the Maryland State Highway Administration and Brudis & Associates, bringing the engineering phase cost down to $108,621.
The new roundabout likely won’t be constructed until late 2026/early2027 due to ongoing work in the city, including the Combined Sewer Overflow Project.
Also at Tuesday’s mayor and council meeting, it was announced that City Administrator Elizabeth Stahlman will resign to take a position as the executive director of the Tri-County Council for Western Maryland.
“We understand how good of an opportunity it is,” said Mayor Todd Logsdon.
“We couldn’t be more proud.”
Stahlman will remain with the city until Jan. 31.
In other action, a resolution to revamp the city’s rental housing program was approved.
A full-time housing inspector will be hired by the city to conduct yearly inspections, rather than several third-party inspectors who had been conducting business previously.
“Bringing the rental housing inspector will be a part of this overhaul process,” said Director of Community Development Bethany Fife.
These changes will become effective July 1, according to Fife.
Other items discussed during Tuesday’s meeting:
* The new salt storage building, located near the Frostburg Armory, is now 100% complete, in time for winter driving season.
* The Combined Sewer Overflow Project is going “as usual,” according to officials.
* A project to add a fourth water source for the city is still in early feasibility stages.
* Sidewalks will be restored to portions of Washington and McCulloh streets, with public hearings coming in the near future.
