Full Christmas Day forecast revealed

Aussies in most parts of the country can expect bright and sunny weather on Christmas Day, according to the latest forecasts.

Residents in most capital cities can expect maximum temperatures in the mid-20s to low-30s, though Darwin and Adelaide could see hotter weather.

“Temperatures for Sydney are likely to be in the high-20s (and in the) low-30s for Canberra,” Bureau of Meteorology senior meteorologist Miriam Bradbury said.

“For Melbourne, we’re expecting a maximum in the high-20s.”

Wider NSW, Victoria and Tasmania are forecast for a warm and dry Christmas Day.

Parts of NSW’s east coast and western Tasmania could potentially see an early Christmas morning shower, but no major low-pressure systems, troughs or cold fronts are predicted anywhere at this stage.

The central and northern Queensland coastlines could see “very isolated” showers, but the southeast should be dry with Brisbane set for a top in the high-20s.

Mild temperatures and possible rain in the afternoon are forecast for WA’s southwest, with Perth expected to reach 25C. Higher temperatures are predicted for northern and inland parts of the state.

Most of WA and South Australia should be hot and dry, with Adelaide expected to hit a maximum about 35C and higher further inland.

Northern parts of WA, the Northern Territory and Queensland will likely receive showers and storms, but widespread heavy rain is not expected on Christmas Day.

Temperatures are forecast to skyrocket from Boxing Day, with the heat spreading across the country from northern WA.

Western Queensland could see maximums above 40C, while western South Australia and the Pilbara could reach 45C.
