A Georgia man is facing multiple charges involving animal abuse after deputies found several dogs living in ‘deplorable conditions.”

On Sunday, Johnson County deputies arrested Bernard Wallace in connection to an animal cruelty case spanning Crawford and Johnson counties.
The following day 40 dogs were seized from a location in Johnson County.
Johnson County officials said with the animals’ deplorable living conditions and health concerns, the dogs were taken to an undisclosed Animal Rescue and Care Unit. There, they will receive medical treatment and care.

According to officials, the investigation began in Oct. 2024. Authorities uncovered evidence of more animals being held under similar conditions in multiple counties across Georgia.
“The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is actively pursuing leads to address the broader scope of this issue. Animal cruelty is a serious and intolerable offense that reflects deep depravity and a disregard for the well-being of innocent creatures,” the sheriff’s office said.
Wallace faces 25 counts of animal cruelty, with more charges forthcoming. The investigation is ongoing.
