Goshen Schools planning to launch business pathway

Jan. 14—GOSHEN — Goshen Community Schools will be soft launching its Business Supply Chain and Logistics Curriculum in the coming weeks.

Superintendent Jim DuBois told the Goshen School Board during Monday night’s meeting that while they were hoping to launch the program at the start of the second semester, they just weren’t prepared yet.

Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Assessment, and Instruction Tracey Noe told the board that they did find an adjunct instructor and found a hybrid curriculum model. For the time being, it looks like the program will begin with students at the Goshen Alternative Program (GAP), formerly Merit, and then building the curriculum out for other students.

“We’re really excited about this pathway for a lot of our kids,” DuBois said. “It gets them ready for entry into almost any business of any kind including healthcare and a lot of other things — school districts, we’re constantly doing shipping and receiving and supply chain logistics, almost everybody does that. I think it’s a good start for some students that are struggling.”

The board approved the hybrid curriculum for at-cost per student, despite not knowing how many students would be enrolled. DuBois explained that Edmentum also offers a similar program, but is not industry-certified and therefore students would have to sit for certification exams outside of class.

DuBois said additional funding for Career and Technical Education from federal and state grants helps to pay the cost of certifications for students.

“It’ll pay for itself with additional dollars on top of our ADM (Average Daily Membership) per student,” he said. “It’s incentivized by the state of Indiana because they’ve identified that pathway as high-wage high-demand. It’ll more than pay for itself.”

2025 BOARD REORGANIZATION

As it is the beginning of the new year, the board was reorganized, including the election of new officers and committee appointments. The board voted to retain Bradd Weddell as president, for Keith Goodman to serve as vice president, and Ryan Glick to serve as secretary. Both newly elected Brand Miller and Ryan Glick were nominated for the position of secretary, but Glick was chosen by a narrow vote.
