What is the Condition of the State address?

Iowa governors annually address the Iowa Legislature to lay out their top priorities for the year and present their proposed state budget.

The speech, which Reynolds will give from the Iowa House chamber, typically provides the first detailed look at the governor’s policy agenda for the year.

So far, Reynolds has said she plans to introduce a bill banning cellphone use in Iowa’s K-12 classrooms and to focus on rural and maternal health care access, but she hasn’t shared specifics about her priorities.

Last year, Reynolds pitched changes to Iowa’s Area Education Agencies, a salary increase for teachers and lowering Iowans’ income taxes.

The Des Moines Register will have complete coverage of Reynolds’ 2025 address and legislative reaction at DesMoinesRegister.com and in our free Iowa Politics Newsletter.
