Jan. 7—GRAND FORKS COUNTY — A Texas man faces two felony drug charges after a sergeant with the Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Office allegedly found him Saturday, Jan. 4, sleeping in a vehicle on the shoulder of U.S. Highway 2 and, looking into the vehicle, saw a baggy that appeared to contain a controlled substance.
Jarrod Michael Walsh, 45, is charged with Class A felony possession of at least 50 grams of cocaine with intent to deliver, which has a maximum 20-year prison sentence.
Walsh is also charged with Class B felony methamphetamine possession with intent to deliver and Class A misdemeanor unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
A GFCSO sergeant checked on a vehicle that was stopped on the shoulder of the 2400 block of U.S. Highway 2 at 12:35 a.m. Jan. 4, according to a declaration of probable cause summary filed in the case. The sergeant checked on the welfare of the driver, and identified him as Walsh by his license.
A plastic baggy containing a white, powdery residue was on the center console, in plain view, the declaration said. The sergeant believed it was a controlled substance, so a search of the vehicle was conducted. Inside, deputies alleged finding 183.9 grams of cocaine, 21.4 grams of methamphetamine and a glass tube used for smoking methamphetamine.
Walsh’s initial court appearance was held Monday, Jan. 6, during which his bond was set at $50,000 cash or surety. His next appearance, a preliminary hearing and/or arraignment, is scheduled for 9 a.m. Feb. 21.
