Weather results in school early releases, late starts

Because of the snowy weather and dangerous driving conditions, districts across the area dismissed students early Thursday. The heavy snowfall also caused some schools to start late Friday.

The Pulaski Community School District announced early Friday morning that students would have a two-hour late start because of weather conditions. The Wrightstown Community School District is also on a two-hour delay, with school starting at 10 a.m.

Where can I check road conditions?

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation maintains an interactive map detailing winter road conditions for major highways and interstates: 511wi.gov.

The department on Tuesday announced new winter road condition categories for the map, to more clearly convey conditions to drivers. The new conditions are: normal, marked in green; partially covered, in blue; completely covered, in pink; travel not advised, in black; and no report, in gray.

The map also flags active crashes and offers views through traffic cameras on some highways in Brown County — most notably, Interstate and U.S. 41, Interstate 43, State 172, State 54/57 and State 29. So before heading out, you can check the traffic cameras and see in real time the road conditions and traffic.
