Hawkeye Community College has partnered with an online university to provide students an easier path to transferring and earning their four-year degree.

The Waterloo-based community college announced in a news release that it signed an agreement with Western Governors University to simplify the credit transfer process for Hawkeye Community College graduates and open up opportunities for financial aid.

According to the release, Western Governors University offers more than 80 bachelor’s and master’s degrees, as well as professional certificates. Average undergraduate tuition for the institution is around $4,000 per term.

“This new partnership with Hawkeye Community College opens up exciting opportunities for students to continue their education and advance their careers,” said Western Governors University Regional Vice President Terrance Hopson in the release. “We share a commitment to providing high-quality, flexible education options, and we are proud to work together to support students on their academic journeys.”

Beyond having an easier time transferring between the schools, both Hawkeye Community College graduates and employees are eligible to apply to the $2,500 WGU Community College Partner Scholarship, the release stated. Students will also have access to program mentors and flexible scheduling options.

The universities are hoping that, through this partnership, they can increase their efforts to improve both education and workforce training in the region, according to the release.

“Hawkeye’s partnership with WGU provides our students with educational opportunities to thrive in today’s dynamic workforce,” Hawkeye Community College President Todd Holcomb said in the release. “This collaboration strengthens our efforts to foster lifelong learning and meet the evolving workforce needs of our community.”
