Hear an unusual noise? It may be crews checking the sewer system in Oak Ridge

The city of Oak Ridge Public Works Department would like residents to be aware of upcoming sanitary sewer inspection work.

Beginning Monday, Jan. 6, crews will be working on the sewer system in the following areas:

  • Robertsville Road from Oak Ridge Turnpike to North Illinois Avenue and side streets; Raleigh Road; Randolph Road; Ivanhoe Road; Inca Circle; Ivanhoe Lane.

  • Highland Avenue to Hillside Road; Henderson Lane; Henley Road; and Henley Place.

Crews will be checking for any blockages in the sanitary sewer system using the Sewer Line Rapid Assessment Tool (SL-RAT), which operates with an acoustic sound wave. During this time, according to a news release, residents may experience unusual noises coming from sewer lines, which is normal due to the high frequency this tool uses.

For more information, contact Oak Ridge Public Works at (865) 425-1875 or visit OakRidgeTN.gov.
