Here’s a look at federal holidays celebrated in 2025

Time off from work was a top priority for many during the holiday season, and with the start of 2025, a fresh round of federal holidays awaited.

Starting in January 2025, 11 federal holidays will close government offices, schools, and many businesses throughout the year, as outlined by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management.

Additionally, Inauguration Day on Jan. 20 will be recognized as a federal holiday, though it will be observed exclusively in Washington, D.C.

Here’s when to mark your calendar for the next government-designated holidays in 2025.

What are the 2025 federal holidays?

A total of 11 federal holidays will be celebrated in 2025, according to the U.S. Office of Personnel Management.

  • Wednesday, Jan. 1: New Year’s Day.

  • Monday, Jan. 20: Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

  • Monday, Feb. 17: President’s Day/Washington’s Birthday

  • Monday, May 26: Memorial Day

  • Thursday, June 19: Juneteenth National Independence Day

  • Friday, July 4: Independence Day

  • Monday, Sept. 1: Labor Day

  • Monday, Oct. 13: Columbus Day

  • Tuesday, Nov. 11: Veterans Day

  • Thursday, Nov. 27: Thanksgiving Day

  • Thursday, Dec. 25: Christmas Day

Although Juneteenth, observed on June 19, is not a state holiday, it remains recognized at the federal level.

Inauguration Day, on Jan. 20, will be observed only by federal employees in Washington, D.C., as noted by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management.
