Things to know

  • Always treat downed wires as if they are live. Keep a distance of at least 30 feet from the wires, and avoid approaching the pole or anything in contact with the line. Immediately report the situation to your local power provider. Dial 911 if an immediate hazard exists.

  • If you are on life-sustaining medical equipment, notify your power supplier and also contact your local police and fire department.

  • You should never use charcoal or gas grills indoors, because they can cause carbon monoxide buildup. That can be deadly.
