Here’s what a 58-year-old Augusta man did to get charged with public indecency

Police have arrested a 58-year-old man whose criminal record elevated his public indecency charges to felonies.

Timothy Kevin Marcus, of Augusta, was arrested about 4 p.m. Wednesday in connection with a pair of open indecency cases. Additional charges could be brought, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Marcus has had five previous convictions for similar offenses, including in Columbia County, the RCSO said.

In 2012, hours after Macon police arrested Marcus for indecent exposure, reports say officers swore out a new warrant against him stemming from an alleged out-of-state victim and an Atlanta probation warrant.

In Georgia, public indecency rises to a felony on and after the third conviction.

Marcus has been on Georgia’s sex offender registry since 2011, classified as a “sexually dangerous predator,” according to the registry.

For the past several weeks, area residents on social media have been reporting sightings of a man walking on the Augusta Canal Historic Trail, genitals exposed, while wearing a onesie and a surgical mask.

“I would like to thank our media partners and the citizens who provided the critical information that allowed us to swiftly apprehend this suspect,” Richmond County Sheriff Gino Brantley said Wednesday. “By working together, we can accomplish so much more for the safety and well-being of the residents and visitors of Augusta-Richmond County.”

Marcus is being held at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center.
