A significant storm system will arrive in Massachusetts late Tuesday night and intensify throughout the day on Wednesday.
Soaking rainfall and strong wind gusts could make for difficult periods of travel, especially during the late afternoon and evening commutes.
FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT
The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for parts of Berkshire, Franklin, Hampshire, and Hampden counties until 7 a.m. Thursday.
Boston 25 Meteorologist Vicki Graf wrote in her latest weather blog that 1-2 inches of rain is expected across the region, with isolated areas nearing 3 inches.
Pockets of torrential rain could lead to localized flooding, especially in low-lying or urban areas.
“It’ll be really tough to drive through some of those pockets where we have that intense rainfall. That’s also when we’ll see some stronger wind,” Graf said in her latest forecast.
HIGH WIND WATCH IN EFFECT
A high wind watch has also been issued for parts of Middlesex, Essex, Norfolk, Suffolk, Bristol, Plymouth, Barnstable, Dukes, and Nantucket counties until 3 a.m. Thursday.
Wind gusts of 50-60 mph are expected to be in place by 5 p.m. and persist through the evening hours.
“It’s a good time today [Tuesday] if you can to just secure those holiday decorations in preparation for that wind,” Graf advised.
The strongest gusts are expected east of Interstate 495.
TEMPERATURE DROP COMING
Temperatures will be in the 50s and 60s as the storm moves through.
Temperatures will stay cooler through the end of the week after the storm moves out.
Expect blustery conditions on Thursday, with highs in the low 40s.
It will be even colder on Friday and Saturday in the 30s.
