ALLOUEZ — A portion of State 57, also known as Riverside Drive, within the village will be closed to repair part of the State 172 overpass beginning Feb. 17.
First announced at the village’s Jan. 15 Public Works Committee meeting, and confirmed by both the village’s public works Director Sean Gehin and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the closure will temporarily divert traffic on a road that 13,900 vehicles use every day.
Here’s what you need to know.
What’s being closed?
WisDOT will close southbound lanes on State 57 at the State 172 bridge in Allouez, Gehin said.
Why the closure?
A truck hauling an oversized load hit the underside of the State 172 bridge at 9:50 a.m. Dec. 2, which bent a steel girder and caused cosmetic damage to another. While the bridge maintenance crew fixed the bent girder, maintenance work had not been scheduled at the time.
When will closure begin?
The village said that the closure is scheduled to begin Feb. 17. No time was given.
How long will the repairs take?
Gehin said WisDOT informed the village that repairs would take approximately two weeks, which would take the timeframe into late February or early March.
Will it impact commutes?
Only on southbound lanes; northbound lanes will remain open, Gehin said.
Are there alternate routes?
WisDOT will make sure a detour for southbound traffic is available, Gehin said.
Traffic will go west across the Fox River to the Ashland Avenue interchange, exit and reenter State 172 to go back east toward State 57.
