Homicide charge pending against Waukesha man, 62, in Oct. 30 body discovery

WAUKESHA – Following a six-week investigation, authorities on Monday were expected to charge a 62-year-old man with intentional homicide tied to the a discovery of body in a wooded area in Waukesha on Oct. 30.

The Waukesha man was scheduled to make his initial appearance at 1 p.m. in Waukesha County Circuit Court. A criminal complaint was still pending as of noon.

However, at a Monday morning news conference, Waukesha police provided some details of the investigation of what was a shooting death.

Police believe the body of the 56-year-old victim, Carlos Maldonado, may have been in the wooded area behind an apartment building in the 1500 block of East North Street since April, six months before a passerby spotted a partially covered tarp that concealed the body.

In the news conference, Waukesha Police Capt. Dan Baumann said the body “looked to be intentionally concealed.” Baumann confirmed that both the victim and the suspect lived in the same apartment building down the hill from where the body was found.

While additional details of the connection between the two men was expected to come from the criminal complaint, Baumann said the investigation revealed that the suspect targeted the victim. “We believe he had a hit list, … that he had grievances with others,” Baumann told reporters.

This is a developing story. Check back for further updates.
