Jan. 10—An Alabama Department of Transportation spokesman warns that road travel remains hazardous and likely will get more so tonight, but that in Morgan and Limestone counties all lanes have been cleared on Interstate 65 and two lanes cleared in each direction on Interstate 565.
Most four-lane routes have at least one lane clear in each direction and crews are continuing to plow, spread salt and treat bridges.
In Lawrence and Franklin counties, crews are working on clearing a lane in each direction on the four-lane routes.
ALDOT Spokesman Seth Burkett said even though crews are clearing snowed in areas on the interstate, traveling is not safe at this point.
“By ‘cleared,’ we really mean ‘mostly clear’ as there may be some residual slush in lanes,” Burkett said. “I don’t want to give the impression that travel is safe, even where lanes have been treated and plowed; it’s still hazardous. There will be slick spots and it’s going to become more hazardous.
“Any water on pavements, including anything running back into travel lanes from windrows of plowed snow, is likely to refreeze tonight.”
