Iowa City police release few details following a ‘suspicious’ death on Monday

Iowa City police are investigating a “suspicious death” that occurred on Monday morning.

Police were called to the 300 block of Camden Road on the far east side of Iowa City shortly after 9 a.m. on Jan. 6 to respond to a medical incident. The Johnson County Joint Emergency Communication Center service log lists the call as “unconscious/fainting.”

The individual’s identity has not yet been revealed, pending notification of their family.

‘Suspicious’ Iowa City death short on information

Iowa City Public Information Officer Lee Hermiston said a suspicious death investigation generally occurs when police are unable to determine the “immediate facts and circumstances” surrounding a death.

An investigation can ensue when “the death is unattended” or because “there are other aspects of the death that warrant further investigation,” Hermiston said.

Iowa City PD did not say what prompted the investigation. No other information has been released.
