President Joe Biden has declared Thursday, Jan. 9 a national day of mourning following the death of former President Jimmy Carter. This includes flags displayed at half-staff, which will continue until Jan. 28.

On previous national days of mourning, federal offices and stock markets were closed in the U.S.

All federal offices will be closed on Jan. 9. Because of Biden’s executive order, all U.S. Postal Service post offices will be closed, and mail will not be delivered today, USPS confirmed to USA TODAY.

Are banks closed today?

National days of mourning do not require businesses or banks to close. Most banks will remain open today, but contact your local bank to see if they are observing the day.

Will UPS and FedEx close on today?

UPS and FedEx are expected to remain open for pickup and delivery services today.

Are the OKC courts closed?

City officials in Oklahoma have announced that municipal courts are closed today due to inclement weather.
