Texas workers will have to wait at least another year for a raise, as the state’s minimum wage is set to remain the same.
In contrast, more than 20 other states will see an increase in their minimum wage next year, further highlighting Texas’ stagnation on this issue. While a change seems unlikely in the upcoming year, perhaps the conversation around a potential increase will resurface with the 2025 legislature.

When was the last time Texas had a minimum wage increase?
The last increase, a modest boost to $7.25 an hour, came in 2009, leaving Texas tied with the federal minimum wage and well behind many other states that have enacted higher rates to keep pace with inflation.

On New Year’s Day, three states – Illinois, Delaware and Rhode Island – will reach a $15 pay base for the first time, joining seven states already there or above it. Two states, California and New Jersey, are set to push their pay floors further above $17 for some health care workers.
