Jan. 9—With cold weather set for today and tomorrow with schools and some businesses closed in Navarro County, Judge James Lagomarsino sent out the following letter to local counsel and litigants in regards to Jan. 10 jury selection:
“At approximately 9:30 p.m. last night, the Court was informed that the Navarro County Courthouse would be closed today and tomorrow due to weather. In order to use the panel already summoned, the Court has ordered that the panel summoned to report on Jan. 10 to now report at 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 13 for jury selection. Counsel and litigants should appear at 8 a.m. The Court appreciates your understanding and cooperation on what amounts to a one-day delay in trial. Counsel and litigants are expected to be ready for trial. It would appear that weather will not be a factor next Monday.”
Later the in morning, Judge Amanda Putman sent out a letter highlighting similar delays in her courtroom:
“As discussed at Final Pre-Trial yesterday as a possibility due to weather concerns, the Navarro County Courthouse has been closed for today, Jan. 9 and Friday, Jan. 10.
Please be advised that although the jury panel was summoned and Counsel and litigants were ordered to appear for jury selection on Jan. 10, due to the weather closures and in order to continue with the jury panel as already summoned, the Court has ordered the proposed jury panel to now report for jury selection at 9 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 13, and all counsel and litigants to report at 8 a.m. The Court expects Counsel and litigants to be prepared to proceed for trial on Monday, Jan. 13.
The Court appreciates everyone’s patience and cooperation with this change in plans. The Court does understand that pushing back jury selection and trial for a day is an inconvenience but does appreciate the consideration of the safety of our community. It does not appear, based upon weather predictions, that Monday will be a concern for weather or safety.
The Court does appreciate everyone’s understanding during this unexpected delay.”
