A Jeffersonville childcare provider was found not guilty Thursday on charges related to the 2022 death of a 6-month-old child.
Brittany Baylor, 35, was acquitted on one count of neglect of a dependent resulting in death and one count of aggravated battery related to the 2022 incident, court records show. Indiana State Police previously said an investigation began into Baylor by request of the Jeffersonville Police Department after officers responded to a residence that July to find a child unresponsive. EMS initially took the infant to Clark Memorial Hospital but was transferred to Norton’s Children’s Hospital and later died.
Indiana State Police Detective Mike Bennett led the investigation and an autopsy report from the Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office found the child died as a result of a closed head injury sustained during an assault.
Baylor faces charges in a separate case related to the alleged abuse of a 2-month-old infant in her care. She is charged with one felony count of battery resulting in serious bodily injury and one felony count of neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury after an investigation into an incident brought before the Indiana Department of Child Services in February.
