Jan. 11—June (Phyllis June Rose) Powell June (Phyllis June Rose) Powell passed away peacefully on Friday, January 3, 2025, at the age of 90. June was born on June 18, 1934, near Rockford, Illinois. She graduated high school in 1952 and married Buster Powell on May 5, 1955, in the Alaska Territory. They celebrated their 55th anniversary prior to his death in 2011. They moved to Albuquerque in 1959 where June worked in APS school cafeterias. She loved to cook and embraced New Mexican cuisine. Creating handmade gifts was her specialty, especially crocheting and knitting, and she was also skilled at ceramics, quilting, and other crafts. She loved to read and solve crossword puzzles. She was a founding member of Christ Lutheran Church. After retirement in 1994, June and Buster enjoyed traveling across the United States. Summers were largely spent at their mountain retreat and winters at South Padre Island. June is survived by two daughters, Carol and Merrilou; two sons, James and Bruce; six grandchildren, Alexander, Jonathan, Shawna, Ashley, Jackson, and Christopher; and six great-grandchildren, Ezra, Isaac, Eli, Lillian, Jordan, and Isabella. She was preceded in death by her husband, Buster, and seven siblings. After her cremation, the family will hold a celebration of life in the mountains.
