Kennedy takes office at association of counties

Dec. 9—A local politician has taken her place as a vice president of a statewide association.

At the winter meeting of the New York State Association of Counties Board of Directors last week, Otsego County Rep. Margaret (Meg) Kennedy attended as the association’s newly elected second vice president. Her election was held at NYSAC’s Fall Seminar conference in Sullivan County, according to a NYSAC news release.

Kennedy currently serves as vice chair of the Otsego County Board of Representatives, where she has been a representative for the Fifth District since January 2014. She serves as the chair of the Administration Committee and is a member of the Intergovernmental Affairs Committee.

Kennedy operates a family-owned horticultural business and is a board member for the Otsego County Soil & Water Conservation District and the Greater Mohawk Valley Land Bank, the release stated.

“I’m honored to have the opportunity to serve Otsego County and counties across the state as NYSAC 2nd Vice President,” Kennedy said. “NYSAC has been a valuable resource for countless county officials, myself included, for nearly 100 years and it’s a privilege to help lead this association as it begins its second century of service.”

“Representative Kennedy has been an exceptional county leader and valued member of our board for many years and I’m thrilled to welcome her to her new role as 2nd Vice President,” said NYSAC President Benjamin Bokyin II, of Westchester County. “Her experience and perspective will be an invaluable contribution to our association’s leadership.”

For nearly 100 years, NYSAC has been the only statewide municipal association representing county leaders, including legislators, supervisors, county executives, administrators, commissioners and other county officials, “acting as their unified voice in advocating and addressing pressing issues facing all 62 counties, including the City of New York, before federal and state officials,” the release stated.
