A fast-moving fire that broke out late last week near Bell Canyon is 100% contained, authorities reported Sunday.
The Kenneth Fire was reported shortly before 2:40 p.m. Thursday near the Victory Trail Head, close to the boundary between Ventura and Los Angeles counties. It had been active in both counties.
The fire burned mostly in open space in Ventura County, threatening surrounding homes in Los Angeles County on its southern and eastern flanks. The fire quickly grew to 1,052 acres but was stopped before reaching nearby homes, officials reported last week.
Initially estimated at 50 acres, the blaze quickly exploded as Santa Ana winds continued to bring dangerous fire weather to Southern California. By Saturday morning, the fire had reached 80% containment.
The cause remains under investigation.
