Kentucky is getting additional snow Friday. What to know about winter safety

Louisville residents are dealing with winter weather and snow a little longer than anticipated with the National Weather Service in Louisville predicting up to 6 inches of snow Friday.

The new precipitation comes just days after another historic winter weather event that shut down businesses and schools across Kentucky and Southern Indiana.

The snow and ice have also shuttered or delayed many local institutions, including Jefferson County Public Schools, which cancelled school for a fifth consecutive day Friday, and the Transit Authority of River City, which is running on reduced service through Sunday.

The Louisville Metro Snow Team has also been working around the clock since Monday to clear roadways and will continue to do so, Mayor Craig Greenberg said during a Thursday news conference. The city has also enlisted an emergency contractor with an additional 12 plowing crews through Sunday morning.
