INDIANAPOLIS — State Rep. Joanna King (R-Middlebury) recently received an appointment to serve on the Indiana House of Representatives’ majority leadership team as deputy speaker pro tempore.
King’s appointment to the position by House Speaker Todd Huston (R-Fishers) makes her the highest-ranking woman on the 14-person Republican leadership team. King will now be able to fill in for Huston as the presiding officer during House floor sessions.
“As a state representative, I’m committed to being the voice of Hoosiers in House District 49,” King said. “It’s an honor to be selected as part of the House leadership team as we continue working to make Indiana one of the best places to live, work and raise a family.”
King was also recently appointed to several House standing committees. She will serve as a member of the House Courts and Criminal Code Committee, House Government and Regulatory Reform Committee and House Public Health Committee.
House standing committee appointments are made by the Indiana House Speaker biennially after the November election and are in effect for the duration of members’ two-year terms.
“We have a talented caucus and a strong leadership team,” Huston said. “I look forward to working together to advance our caucus priorities and address the issues important to Hoosiers in the coming session.”
House lawmakers are scheduled to convene at 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 8 for the first day of the 2025 legislative session. Hoosiers can visit iga.in.gov to find legislation, view calendars, and watch committee meetings and session.
King encourages constituents to visit in.gov/h49 to sign up to receive e-newsletter updates about what’s happening at the Statehouse throughout the legislative session and beyond.
