Kingsport police investigate deaths of Oak Ridge woman, Kingsport man

Kingsport police are investigating the deaths of an Oak Ridge woman and a man who were found dead of gunshot wounds on Dec 28.

Kingport police identified the two as 25-year-old Mikayla Sandusky and 27-year-old Dillion Prater. Their bodies were sent to the William L. Jenkins Forensic Center of the East Tennessee State University James H. Quillen College of Medicine in Johnson City for autopsies, according to a news release posted to the Kingsport Police Department’s website.

Police responded to a call of a disturbance at a residence on Tiffany Court in Kingsport at 8:36 a.m. Dec. 28. A person not identified by police arrived at the residence before police and found both people on the floor and unresponsive, the release stated. Police arrived shortly after and found Sandusky and Dillon were dead and that they had suffered gunshot wounds. A firearm was found at the scene.

Police said this is believed to be an isolated incident.

Sandusky was a 2017 graduate of Hardin Valley Academy in Knox County, according to her obituary posted at Fraker Funeral Home in Kingston. She received her associate degree at Pellissippi State Community College, and a bachelor’s degree from King University. Sandusky was employed by Cason Group in Knoxville, where she’d worked since 2021, the company’s website stated.

She attended The Grove Church in Kingston with her family, according to the obituary. She leaves behind her son, Tatum, of Ten Mile, and his father, Seth James Long of Knoxville; parents William and Carol-Ann Sandusky of Ten Mile; sister, Kimberlyn Nicole Sandusky of Knoxville and other family members, friends and co-workers.
