Officers arrested a man on Friday morning after he attacked a father and his juvenile daughter “for no apparent reason,” according to the Culver City Police Department.
The department’s release stated that officers responded around 9:28 a.m. to Ocean Drive and Westwood Boulevard for a call about an assault with a deadly weapon.
According to preliminary information, the father told the responding officers that he and his daughter were exercising along the bike path of La Ballona Creek when a man emerged and started “violently swinging a knife” in the father’s direction.
Officers said that neither the victim nor his daughter were injured and they were able to flee from the attacker. Officials did not immediately identify either family member or the suspect.
“Police canvassed the area and swiftly located and detained the suspect without incident in the Culver City Middle School parking lot, adjacent to the footbridge,” stated the department’s release.
Officials noted that due to winter break, there were no students present at the time of the incident.
Moments before he was detained, the suspect purportedly discarded the knife he used in the attack, but officers recovered it at the scene.
“The suspect was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and booked at the Culver City Jail,” concluded the release.
