Kwik Trip in Germantown looks to move to new location in village, build a bigger facility

Kwik Trip in Germantown is looking to move to a new location, not far from its current site, where it would build a new facility with a two-bay car wash, more fueling options and increased store space, according to village documents.

It’s a proposal that still needs the approval of the Germantown Village Board.

Kwik Trip’s new store would still be near Interstate 41 and along Maple Road, if approved.

The Journal Sentinel did not immediately hear back from Kwik Trip, but here’s what we know about the proposal:

Where is the current Kwik Trip in Germantown and where would the new store be?

Kwik Trip is currently at W188 N10963 Maple Road.

The proposed new Kwik Trip site is about 1,000 feet to the north, at N112 W18741 Mequon Road, still along Maple Road. The location would have access from both Maple Road and Mequon Road.

Both sites are just northeast of Interstate 41.

A rendering shows what the fuel canopy would look like at Kwik Trip’s proposed new location in Germantown at N112 W18741 Mequon Road.

What improvements are planned for the new site?

At 4.37 acres, the proposed location is larger than the current 2.5-acre site and provides an opportunity for Kwik Trip to develop a new state-of-the-art facility approximately 12,000 square feet in size, according to village documents.

There would be increased store space with higher ceilings, more gasoline fueling positions, a two-bay drive-thru carwash, a separate diesel fueling area and canopy, and additional parking.

What’s currently on the proposed site ?

The site is the former home of PNC Bank, according to village documents. If the proposal is approved, the office building would be razed to make way for the new Kwik Trip.

What would happen to Kwik Trip’s existing location if the new location is approved?

If the proposal is approved, the existing Kwik Trip store would be put up for sale with a deed restriction that does not allow a convenience store or fueling station to be in its place.

What village approvals are required for the project?

The proposal requires two conditional use permits from the village. It would also require a rezoning.

The Germantown Village Board will discuss the rezoning and the conditional use permits at its Monday, Jan. 6 meeting.
