Area representatives in the state Legislature, all Republicans, were critical of Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul’s State of the State address on Tuesday.
“Governor Hochul’s 2025 proposals once again prioritize temporary fixes over lasting solutions,” Assembly member Brian Miller, R-New Hartford, said in a news release. “While I was glad to hear about the proposed investments in public safety, housing and for our youth, many concerns still remain. The proposed measures like the $3 billion inflation refund and expanded child tax credits offer short-term relief, however, they fail to address the root causes of New York’s affordability crisis and the burden placed on families.
“New Yorkers deserve more than band-aid solutions — they deserve real, sustainable reform. I look forward to working with my colleagues and the Governor in the 2025 legislative session to come up with meaningful solutions to benefit the families of the 122nd Assembly District.
Miller’s district includes a portion of Otsego County.
Assembly member Chis Tague, R-Schoharie, issued a news release, saying, “Under Governor Hochul’s leadership, New York has spiraled into crisis after crisis. Families can’t afford to live here, businesses are fleeing, and our communities are less safe. Instead of delivering real solutions, Governor Hochul’s State of the State offers shallow words, superficial ideas, and empty rhetoric — all while New Yorkers pay the price.
“The time for excuses is over. We need bold, decisive action to restore common sense and prosperity to New York. Governor Hochul has shown she doesn’t have what it takes to lead. Our state deserves and must demand better.”
Tague’s 102nd Assembly District includes Schoharie County and parts of Delaware and Otsego counties, among others.
