Roads in some parts of Louisville may be slippery Saturday following a fresh coat of 3 inches of snow.
Of Louisville’s 110 snow routes, many have been either salted, plowed or both in the past 24 hours, according to the Metro Snow Map, and crews are poised to make more progress throughout the day.
The Louisville Metro Snow Team has worked around the clock on 12-hour shifts since Sunday and is continuing Saturday, said Salvador Melendez, a spokesperson for the Department of Public Works.
Melendez cautioned that roads could still be slick in some areas and advised motorists prepare for travel to take longer than usual.
“We ask that you avoid unnecessary travel, but if you must be on the roads, use caution as you drive as they may be icy and slippery,” Melendez said in a news release.
Starting Friday, the 200-member snow team was supplemented by 12 additional road crews through an emergency contractor, who will continue their work in Louisville throughout the weekend.
Morgan Woodrum, a spokesperson for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 5 — responsible for the highway system in Jefferson and surrounding counties, said state crews worked overnight and are working throughout the day Saturday, as well.
With frigid temperatures not expected to surpass freezing Saturday, Woodrum warned that salt may not be as effective.
