No major snowstorms are in Louisville’s forecast this week, but temperatures in the single digits and teens will chill the city over the next few days.
The cold front will keep air temperatures below freezing through Wednesday, according to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service in Louisville. A quick dusting of snow is also expected Tuesday, but data shows Indiana may receive a bit more snow than Kentucky, meteorologist Mark Jarvis said Monday.
Wind chill will likely make the cold feel even colder Tuesday, with wind chill values expected to be as low as 2 degrees during the day. The air temperature could be around 6 degrees Tuesday night. Jarvis said the single-digit wind chill values will persist Wednesday morning as well.
Some relief from the wintry conditions may arrive as soon as Thursday, when Louisville is expected get out of the freezing conditions. The high will be near 38 degrees Thursday, and could rise into the 40s Friday and Saturday, according to the NWS forecast.
There are not any significant snow concerns in Louisville through Friday, but the city and much of the country is at under a “slight risk” for heavy snow Saturday through Monday, according to the Climate Prediction Center. Jarvis said the weather service’s models for precipitation vary greatly and it is difficult to predict how much snow will fall across the region.
“Some of the models show just rain for Louisville Friday night into Saturday, while others show rain with snow coming on the backside of the system,” Jarvis said.
