A 21-year-old man was found dead Sunday afternoon from gunshot wounds in Patterson Park.
Capt. Mike Miller of the Akron Police Department said that the police department received several calls around 3 p.m. for multiple gunshots heard around the 600 block of Lucille Avenue. Responding officers found the man.
“He was found in the grassy area near the basketball courts,” Miller said. He added that both EMS and the medical examiner’s office were called to assist, and the man was declared deceased at the scene.
There are no known suspects at this time, Miller said, and the case is under investigation. A vehicle, possibly an SUV, was seen fleeing the area around the time the gunshots were heard.
“Any shooting, whether someone dies or not, is concerning,” Miller said. “What is more concerning here is there were more than a dozen rifle casings found.”
These casings, Miller added, were collected by police as evidence. The exact type of weapon is unknown.
