Dec. 10—A 24-year-old man indicted Tuesday is accused of firing multiple shots while trying to break into his ex-girlfriend’s house last month in Dayton.
J’veon Jamell Grooms is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court for one count each of felonious assault, strangulation, improperly discharging a firearm at or into a habitation and a misdemeanor domestic violence charge.
The Dayton Police Department responded to a burglary in progress around 5:45 a.m. Nov. 17 in the 300 block of Kenilworth Avenue.
Police spoke to a woman who said her ex-boyfriend, identified as Grooms, choked her a few days earlier, on Nov. 14, according to an affidavit filed in Dayton Municipal Court.
“Grooms became angry with her and forced her onto the bed by her throat,” the affidavit stated. “He then squeezed her neck to the point that she could not breathe and also left bruising on her neck.”
He returned Nov. 17 and tried to force his way into her home.
Grooms fired eight shots from a handgun into the bathroom window and then fled, according to court records.
He was arrested Dec. 3 and remains held on $150,000 bail in the Montgomery County Jail.
