Man accused of fleeing traffic stop with Dayton officer in car pleads guilty

Dec. 10—A Dayton man accused of trying to flee from a traffic stop with a police officer stuck inside the car has pleaded guilty.

Antonie Michael Still, 31, pleaded guilty in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court to one count of felonious assault and one count of obstructing official business in a pair of plea agreements filed Monday.

The sentence for those charges could include fines of up to $22,500, and prison terms of three to 16 and a half years for the felonious assault charge and six to 12 months for the obstructing official business charge. He will then face up to five years of probation.

As part of the agreement, charges of kidnapping and resisting arrest would be dismissed.

Still is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 14, 2025. At the time of writing, he was not in the Montgomery County Jail, according to the jail website.

The charges stem from a traffic stop on May 13. At around 10 p.m. officers Ashley Frey and Madeline Ambrose pulled over a Honda Civic with expired tags near Bierce Avenue and South Torrence Street.

According to Dayton Municipal Court documents, Still began reaching for a backpack on the floor of the car, so Frey asked him to step out of the car.

Dash and body camera footage showed one of the officers start to open the driver’s door when Still pulls it shut and says “Ma’am I’m not going to do that.”

Court records said that both officers then opened the door and Frey reached across Still to unlatch his seat belt. As she did so, Still tried to accelerate away.

The video shows Frey and Still struggle with each other while trying to control the car.

The affidavit said that it then crashed into a parked pickup truck, which closed the door and shut Frey inside.

Ambrose ran to the car and tried to open the passenger door, which was locked. The car briefly backed up before stopping, and Ambrose was able to break the passenger side window.

The car then accelerated forward again and crashed into a tree, deploying the airbags.

Still got out of the car and fled on foot, with one of the officers trying to use a Taser on him as he fled.

While on foot, he dropped a bag that he later told detectives contained cocaine, court records said.

He was later arrested after two other officers found him under a handicap ramp in a yard. Reportedly, a resident’s dog had bitten him while he fled.

Frey was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, treated and released. Still was also transported to the hospital before being booked into the Montgomery County Jail.

Still claimed that he was shot at, though police reported no shots were fired during the incident.
