Man charged after bringing father’s body to Livingston County Sheriff’s Office

A man was charged with felony evidence tampering after bringing his father’s deceased body to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office Monday night, according to Sheriff Thomas Dougherty.

Dougherty said that 60-year-old Richard Fluegel Sr. left Irondequoit after 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8, and never returned. His family reported him missing to the Irondequoit Police Department. On Monday, Dec. 9, his vehicle was located in Dansville, the southern part of Livingston County, according to police.

Monday evening around 11:40 p.m., 911 dispatch received a call from a man stating he was in the parking lot of the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office and that he wanted to turn in a body, Dougherty said. The sheriff’s office believes the body to be of the missing Irondequoit man, Richard Fluegel Sr. The preliminary investigation reveals the victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds, Dougherty said.

According to Dougherty, the suspect, 30-year-old Richard Fluegel Jr., was the son of the deceased man and is believed to be the person who placed the phone call Monday night. Dougherty said he was charged with evidence tampering, but more charges are expected to come.

The sheriff’s office stated that they have filed multiple search warrants for his vehicle and other locations within the county. They did not confirm who shot Fluegel Sr.
