Prosecutors have revealed plans to lay additional charges against a Queensland man accused of abducting and raping a teenager.
Travis Scott Rielly, 57, appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Friday, three months after he was extradited from Queensland and charged over the alleged historic attack.
Police allege Mr Rielly, then in his early 20s, grabbed a 19-year-old woman walking home from a night out along Carlisle St in St Kilda on January 23, 1988.

In court, prosecutor Mitchell Wilson said additional charges were expected to be laid but “there will be some withdrawals on the next occasion”.
Mr Rielly’s lawyer Jasmine Pisasale requested the case be adjourned for two months as his defence was waiting for additional material from prosecutors.
She said the case was “primarily” based on DNA evidence, and Mr Rielly’s defence would be seeking to engage an independent expert to review the analysis.
“I’ve been instructed that six weeks is required for that, hence the eight week period,” she said.

Mr Rielly was extradited from Queensland to Victoria on October 19 and formally charged with offences including two counts of aggravated rape, four counts of rape, abduction by force, kidnapping and false imprisonment.
The Coorparoo man has not been required to enter pleas.
At the time of his arrest, Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Brett Robinson said detectives had not given up on the investigation, which was reopened in May 2021 after “further information came to light”.
Mr Rielly will return to court on March 14.
