GREEN OAK TWP. — A man charged with stalking and second-degree arson in Green Oak Township was sentenced to prison last month with credit for time served.
Mark Burgaj, 31, was charged with stalking, aggravated stalking and second-degree arson after a fire on Fieldcrest Drive in early 2023. He was sentenced Nov. 21 before Judge Matthew McGivney in Livingston County’s 44th Circuit Court.
According to court records, Burgaj entered a plea of “nolo contendere” to the stalking charge, a type of plea where the defendant accepts a conviction as though they pled guilty, but doesn’t admit guilt. The aggravated stalking charge was voluntarily dismissed by the prosecution.

Burgaj also entered a plea of nolo contendere for the second-degree arson charge.
For the stalking charge, he was sentenced to a minimum of one year in jail, but received credit for 563 days served. For the arson charge, he was sentenced to prison for a minimum of five years and a maximum of 20 years, with credit for 564 days served.
