Man connected to overdoses arrested

Jan. 16—A 33-year-old Odessa man was arrested Wednesday on multiple felony charges after police said they caught him with nearly 80 grams of fentanyl.

According to an Odessa Police Department report, detectives with the Midland Odessa Violent Crime Task Force received a tip Ryell Pride was dealing fentanyl out of various hotels in Odessa and several overdose victims had purchased fentanyl from Pride.

Detectives pulled Pride over for a traffic violation and they found 7.9 grams of fentanyl in his possession along with a large amount of money, the report stated.

After obtaining a warrant for his hotel room at the SureStay Plus on West Interstate 20, detectives found 68 grams of fentanyl in powder and pill form, 0.36 ounces of marijuana, digital scales and plastic baggies, the report stated.

Pride was arrested on suspicion of manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance in a drug free zone because the hotel is 587 feet from McKinney Park, possession of a controlled substance, tampering with physical evidence and possession of marijuana.

Pride is being held in the Ector County jail on a U.S. Marshals hold.
