Man dies by suicide at a state park by the Susquehanna River: York County Coroner

A 53-year-old man died Sunday evening at the Susquehanna Riverlands State Park in Hellam Township after jumping off a rock ledge, according to the York County Coroner’s Office.

The name of the man has not been released at this time.

The man was found deceased at the park after jumping approximately 75 feet off a rock ledge, the coroner’s office said in a news release. He had been threatening to end his life before he died.

He was pronounced dead at 9:40 p.m. The cause of death is multiple blunt force trauma, and the manner is suicide, the release states.

Law enforcement with the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is investigating the incident, the release states.

Multiple fire departments from York and Lancaster counties, Hellam Township Police and the Advance Technical Rescue Team responded to the scene, the release states.

An autopsy is not planned, but routine toxicology will be done, the release states.
