Delaware State Police have identified the man fatally shot at the Budget Inn off Route 9 near New Castle on Sunday as 49-year-old John Pipkin of Wilmington.
Police said they found Pipkin with a gunshot wound in the parking lot of the motel at 8:21 p.m. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The shooter was later identified as 30-year-old Marvin Clifford of North Charleston, South Carolina. Police said Clifford shot Pipkin during a robbery in the back parking lot of the Budget Inn.
Clifford was arrested Monday and charged with four felonies: first-degree murder, first-degree attempt to commit robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and carrying a concealed firearm.

He was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $1.11 million bail.
