Man hospitalized after shooting on Norwegian Street

POTTSVILLE— A 32-year-old city man is in Schuylkill County Prison, charged with criminal attempted homicide after a shooting Monday morning.

The victim, who was shot in the buttocks during the incident at approximately 12:52 a.m., was flown via Medivac to Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest-Allentown.

Police arrested Keron Diwilliam Shockley after a brief foot chase near Phoenix Fire Company on East Norwegian Street. Police were responding to a call of shots fired.

Patrolman Michael Hrebik went to the 300 block of East Norwegian Street and spoke with a man at the 7-Eleven convenience store who said he saw an altercation involving three men. Police went to the area near the fire company and found Jacob Mason, 27, according to reports.

According to charging documents, Mason told police he was involved in an altercation with one man who had been at the 7-Eleven.

Eight spent shell casings were recovered in the 300 block of East Norwegian St.

A H-Point 10mm gun was found in a trash can in the 500 block of East Norwegian Street, which had the same caliber of bullets as the ones recovered earlier.

A resident told police they saw a man wearing a gray beanie and a puffy jacket run east on East Market Street. Police apprehended Shockley on Snyder Street, finding his jacket nearby. A review of store footage showed Shockley with attire matching what he was arrested in, according to police reports.

Magisterial District Judge James Reiley arraigned Shockley and denied bail because of the attempted homicide charge, court records show.

Shockley also is charged with felonies of possession of a firearm when prohibited, aggravated assault and carrying firearms without a license. The misdemeanor charges against Shockley include recklessly endangering another person, simple assault, possession of a weapon, tampering with and fabricating physical evidence, loitering and prowling at night and disorderly conduct engaging in fighting.

A preliminary hearing is set for 9:15 a.m. Jan. 27 in Reiley’s courtroom.
