A 23-year-old man was shot and now faces charges after an encounter with Wilmington police in which he was armed.
Around 11:30 p.m. on Dec. 27, officers observed a person in the area of 14th and Nun streets, riding a bike while wearing a ski mask, according to a news release from the Wilmington Police Department. When the man noticed the officers, he jumped from his bike and ran on foot.

As he was running, officers noticed a gun in his hand, according to the release. As officers pursued him, he began to turn around with the gun. A Wilmington police officer fired shots, striking the man — identified by law enforcement as Savion Wilson of Wilmington.
Wilson was taken into custody and faces numerous charges, including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and narcotics charges.
As of Saturday afternoon, Wilson was in serious but stable condition.
