Dec. 24—A North Hill man was jailed Monday following a reported early morning assault of a woman who was sleeping in a house on the city’s East Side.
New Castle police arrested Martel Lamar Webb, 30, of Wildwood Avenue following the alleged attack that reportedly occurred around 4:30 a.m. in the 900 block of Beckford Street.
According to a criminal complaint, a woman reported to police she was in bed sleeping when Webb woke her up and wrapped a cord around her neck, choked her and punched her repeatedly in the face. She said he also threatened to kill her.
Police said they arrived to find her injured and bleeding. She was treated at the scene by ambulance personnel.
Police reported they found Webb in an upstairs bedroom lying on the ground suffering an apparent seizure, the report said, and he was breathing but unresponsive.
Emergency personnel treated him and took him to a hospital for treatment.
He later was cleared and released.
He is charged with aggravated assault, strangulation, terroristic threats, simple assault and harassment.
He was arraigned by District Judge Melissa A. Amodie, who committed him to the Lawrence County jail on a $50,000 bond.
Suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty or adjudicated in court.
