Man pulled from roof of Chesterfield residence has been charged with setting the fire

CHESTERFIELD − A man plucked off the roof of a house on fire early Tuesday morning has been charged with starting the fire.

Mondaine Brown, 43, was charged with one count of burning an occupied dwelling, according to the Chesterfield Fire Department. He is being held at the county jail.

The agency said the fire was reported around 6:30 a.m. in the 500 block of Wellshire Place in southeastern Chesterfield’s Enon area. Crews arrived at the scene to find smoke and fire coming from a second-story bedroom.

The blaze was quickly brought under control and contained to the bedroom. It later was ruled to be arson.

No one was reported injured.

Prior to firefighters arriving, police officers had removed Brown from the roof of the residence.

An investigation is continuing.
